ERASMUS+ VOICES: SITGES MOBILITY: 23345-MOBGRP-156714
Cari studenti e studentesse,
Talking about the amazing experience I had in Sitges, I’d like to focus on some points: the hospitality, the food and some activities we did.
Starting with the hospitality, I will say that I felt very comfortable and well welcomed by the Catalan people, maybe others will not agree with me here, but I stand with what I’m writing here. It only took some time to break the ice and start to get to know each other, and then we got along really well!
Now let’s talk about the food… I am a very picky eater, but I’ll say, surprisingly, that I was okay with the food. This also may be because their traditional food is sometimes very similar if not the same as it is where I am originally from, so we can say I was more than satisfied.
Finally, I wanted to write about some of the activities we did. I liked almost all of them, the drawing, exploring together, visiting Barcelona, etc. While I liked the activities, I can say I would have liked more free time, by free time I mean time, in the middle of maybe a visit somewhere, to stay just with our friends, maybe eat something together, go to a bar and things like that. I think it would have been really cool because that could have helped us to break the ice and get to know each other even more and create so many unforgettable memories.
ACTIVITIES
During these days in Sitges we did a lot of activities. The first day we were presented the school and we went to the harbour of Sitges where we saw the beach Auguadolç. In the harbour we had to take some photos of the fish tools and the historical boat and we had to draw them. Then we cooked the paella. The best day was in Barcelona: we visited the Sagrada Familia, the Cathedral of Barcelona, la Rambla and la Boqueria. This was an amazing experience that I’m never going to forget. On this day we had to do a treasure hunt starting from the Cristobal Colon. The next day we explained our presentation about the sea of plastic and we have been in Vilanova i la Geltrù where we visited the Tower Guinovart, where it seemed to be under the sea and the beach of Vilanova and we had to search for some different plants present in the beach. After this activity we went to the Bowling in Vilanova Park Shopping Center where we showed our skills. The last day we went to the beach of Sitges and in the CEM Environmental, where we visited the CEM building and we had to pick up plastic objects from the beach and to separate them into different materials, an activity ideal for recycling. And the last thing that we did was to produce an artistic workshop with recycled materials. We produced a hallway, an unusual thing to do, with the materials we had, but it turned out amazing. And at the end we talked about our manifesto about ideal things to do for recycling.
FAMILIES
We were really worried about the families, because we didn’t know them and it’s always weird to go to an unknown house. On Sunday we arrived, met them and immediately all the anxiety disappeared, they were kind and helpful with us, they made us feel comfortable and like a part of their family. In general, all Spanish families are big, with lots of brothers, sisters and relatives, and they also like to have pets. The atmosphere is really cozy and relaxed, they have good and strong relationships between the members, and they also have a role in their family: the mum usually cooks and takes care of the children, the dad makes the rules to have a coexistence as good as possible, the older siblings look after the younger ones and the children often do little chores, like walking the dog or laying the table. They also have different schedules than us, they wake up later, have lunch at around 2:30 PM and dinner at 9:30/10 PM. I also noticed that Spanish people are way more relaxed when going to work or school, it’s like they don’t feel the pressure, and that’s great. The experience in general was one of the best things I did in my whole life, it was like living a dream, everything was perfect: the people, the place, the activities, maybe the food was not the best, but that’s not the point. I enjoyed it so much, if I have the chance I would do it again right away.
SCHOOL
In Sitges the name of the school is Escola Pia and it is very different from our school. It’s bigger and it has five floors.
Students go to school just five days a week and they don’t go on Saturdays.
They call their teachers by their first name and they talk to them informally. The relationship between the students and the teachers is more friendly.
The school in Sitges is more relaxed and the students don’t feel the pressures of the school.
They finish school this year and next year they can choose to continue their studies or go to work.
