Departure day

We took a flight from Italy to the Netherlands, and after taking a Taxi we arrived at SG Huizermaat (our exchange school located in Huizen, Netherlands) at 18:00.

While there we met our exchange partners and played some ice breaking activities to get to know each other better.

Day 1

The next day we went to SG Huizermaat and we got introduced to the week's activities program, then we showed everyone our group presentation which was made based on the theme of freedom. And lastly we did a school tour with some Dutch students. In the afternoon we were allowed to have some free time which we decided to spend by going to Amsterdam. This has been a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Dutch culture through our exchange partners while also relaxing by doing some shopping and wandering in Museums. I had a really good time.

Day 2

On the second day we went to Amsterdam to take part in some activities, which were: Rap and music, Dance, Fashion and Spoken word (poetry). We had expressed our preferences between these activities before leaving and I took part in the Rap and music workshop.

My group was guided through the activity by two coaches, Rebecca (a music artist) and MC complex (a well-known rapper). We wrote a song with the help of the two of them, who also taught us more about music while keeping a cheerful atmosphere and creating a safe space for us to express ourselves. I really enjoyed it.

In the afternoon we went to the Van Gogh museum and even though we didn't have much time the guide was still able to convey the most important concepts while keeping everything interesting.

Day 3

On the third day we went to Rotterdam and we did a boat tour. I personally enjoyed Amsterdam more but I still had a good time and enjoyed some interesting conversations with the Dutch students. We were back at 17:00. I had dinner with my exchange partner and 2 other Dutch students and their exchange partners (one from Germany and the other one from Hungary). We had so much fun.

Day 4

On Thursday we were back in Amsterdam to finish the activities that we had started on day 2. In the Rap and music workshop we chose which type beats could fit our songs and practiced performing. After having lunch we performed in front of everyone. The other workshops also showed their work. After that we did a final review of the week and then we came back to Huizen. In the evening we had a bowling party.

Departure day

On day 6th we went back home. We had some free time so we managed to visit Utrecht as well. We visited a really nice science museum, the Univeriteitmuseum Utrecht and some of us did some shopping.

Overall judgment

My overall judgment is really positive, I had a great time in the Netherlands. It was really interesting conversing with students from other nations by exploring our cultural differences and by being brought together by our similarities in hobbies, feelings and values.

My hosting family was really nice, they made me feel comfortable in an unknown environment which then, didn't feel strange in the slightest to call home. Conversing with the parents made me understand even further a lot of their personal way of living and their way of living based on their culture.

The activities were extremely well planned. By giving us more free time, it was clear that the Dutch teachers who organized everything had taken into account the students' complaints from the previous exchange trips. Which was really nice.

I thank Ms. Piani who accompanied us. Going to the science museum was a really good idea and, because she is a science teacher, she could explain to us some interesting scientific curiosities while also giving us time to wander around freely. She tried her best to listen to our needs while also being organized with the timetable program. I am glad that she was with us.

It was really an amazing project, it couldn't have been any better.
